WHAT IS ONWARD?

Onward Wellness is a 100% virtual health & wellness platform that offers live, recorded, one-on-one, and small group fitness, meditation and nutrition instruction to individuals with adaptive needs, seniors in apartment communities or assisted living facilities, and those who are home-bound due to serious injuries or illnesses. Onward Wellness helps people realize that an elevated quality of life doesn’t have to stop after a traumatic event, as you age, or while battling an illness. Achieving your goals & dreams can still be a reality if you adapt your thinking and strengthen your mind, body, and spirit for total health & wellness while doing it all through the convenience of your own home.

The Onward Story

Onward Wellness was founded in 2020 as a direct result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Maintaining proper health & wellness is vital for any individual, especially those who have pre-existing health conditions. The challenge of maintaining, or even enhancing a healthy mind, body, and spirit is hard enough, let alone adapting to living a life indoors while the entire world was quarantined. Individuals living with major injuries or illnesses already have a difficult time getting out of the home and integrating back into society.

When COVID-19 forced this population of people to become homebound, many slipped into depression, regressed physically, and were left wondering what quality of life they were going to live.

As advocates of the adaptive needs community for the past 20 years, we felt strongly that Onward Wellness could play an intricate role in helping people with adaptive needs continue to progress their health & wellness onward by bringing a unique set of virtual services into the home environment.

Greg Kirk

Founder & CEO

Greg Kirk is an entrepreneur/business owner who holds a Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University in Education. Greg has been involved in different aspects of the fitness, health & wellness, and rehabilitation industries for the past 18 years. First, as a personal trainer, coach, physical education teacher, inclusive fitness trainer, and now as an entrepreneur and business owner. Greg has presented numerous times across the State of Michigan, and Chicago, as a speaker on the topics of rehabilitation, inclusive fitness training, and entrepreneurship. Greg has been published in several local and national newspaper & magazine articles on the topic of inclusive fitness training. Greg believes in the power of networking to create new resources for injured individual’s so they find the quality of care needed to move onward through the recovery process. Greg is also passionate about entrepreneurship, and wants to pay it onward by collaborating with fellow entrepreneurs to enhance the small business profession.

Jennifer Prong

Virtual Fitness Instructor

Jennifer holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology Exercise & Sport Track, and is a ACSM-NCHPAD Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer and has earned her Personal Trainer diploma from NPTI (National Personal Training Institute). Jennifer is also working to obtain her BlazeSports America Certified Adaptive Recreation and Sports Specialist (CARSS)™ certification. In her previous career as a Corporate Fitness Specialist for Ford Motor Company, Jennifer taught a Functional Fitness Circuit Class at the Ford-UAW Ernest Lofton Fitness Center, to help retirees and older individuals maintain a healthy, active lifestyle through basic movement training. She also gave health and wellness presentations to Ford employees. Currently, Jennifer is an ACSM-NCHPAD CIFT (Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer) for Onward Therapy Services. She enjoys working with individuals of different physical abilities and goals on developing a training plan that motivates them and creates results and adherence. She is passionate about teaching functional, balance and non-traditional light/body weight training plans, and building rapport with each client that she works with. Jennifer has been a volunteer for Detroit Sister Friends since 2017, teaching pregnant women in need to take care of their health by providing clean eating and exercise presentations as well as offering support.

Lea Madjoff

Virtual Fitness Instructor

Lea is a health and fitness professional who holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Toledo. She is certified as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and health and wellness coach, with experience in the development and implementation of health promotion programs. She has also served as a partner with individuals seeking to succeed in reaching their health and fitness goals in a clinical and community setting through group exercise classes, one-on-one personal training, and wellness workshops. Lea is specialized to work with the aging population, those with mobility and orthopedic health concerns, and those seeking a mind/body approach for a means of improving their health, wellness, and fitness. Lea is passionate about supporting individuals by delivering programs and introducing tools and resources that aid them in reaching a healthier, happier self through the means of health behavior change.

Keely Zuri

Virtual Fitness Instructor

Keely is a healthcare professional who holds a B.A. in Medical Anthropology from the University of Michigan. she is also a Physical Therapist Assistant. She has been involved in different aspects of the medical field for the past 7 years. Keely believes in helping her patients become more empowered and embodied so they can take charge and help direct their healing process and feel confident within their body’s unique parameters. She is passionate about meeting patients where they are today, guiding them to increased strength and stability in the future.

Donna Scott, CPT, WLS, CES, SFS

Virtual Fitness & Meditation Instructor

Donna is a wellness professional who has been immersed in the fitness and wellness community for over 15 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree from The University of Connecticut. She started her career in fitness as a Zumba instructor, and from there, she obtained her personal training certification from AFAA and opened the successful business “IFoundFitness”, where she trained over 700 clients ranging from teenagers to senior citizens. Along with her personal training certification, Donna holds certifications in Senior Fitness, Cancer Exercise Training, Indoor Cycling, Bootcamp and Pilates. She loved the mind/body aspect of Pilates, Donna decided to pursue certifications in Chair Yoga and Meditation. Her training philosophy always includes helping clients to develop a mind/body practice such as meditation to help quiet the mind and reduce anxiety and stress.

Sarah Balthrop, CWP, LE, MBSR

Virtual Meditation Instructor

Sarah is a Health & Wellbeing Specialist and Certified Wellness Practitioner, who’s also certified in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and as a Lifestyle Educator. Her Bachelor’s degree is in Health Sciences from Oakland University with a concentration in Professional Health. For the last 7 years she has been working with companies, enterprises, small businesses, and schools around the country to educate on workplace wellness and mental wellbeing. She’s been guiding meditation and teaching mindfulness for 10 years, both in group work and one-on-one sessions. Her approach to mindfulness and mental health is always personalized, centering each experience around self-awareness and empowerment.

Dan Auberle

Virtual Meditation Instructor

Dan hails from Traverse City, MI and has been working as a professional Chef and Culinary Teacher in the Detroit area for the past 20 years. Dan joined the Dharma Gate Zen Temple in 2014 and has been learning and teaching meditation there and at other Buddhist centers for the past 6 years. Learning “mindful meditation” has made an affect on Dan’s life both personally and professionally. Overseeing dining services at the largest senior living centers in the State of Michigan, with over 200 employees and 1,000 diners everyday can be highly stressful. Meditation has been a very successful tool to help deal with that pressure. Meditation is also responsible for enhancing Dan’s performance as a competitive cyclist, as well as to be the best father possible to his three daughters. Dan hopes to share this time honored technique with everyone who wishes to reduce stress, anxiety, and to live a healthy lifestyle!

Stella Lee

Virtual Dietitian

Stella is a Registered Dietitian based in Southern California. She has been a dietitian since 2009, working mainly in clinical, rehab, and acute care settings. She has a specialization in Oncology Nutrition. Stella attained her Bachelor’s in Nutritional Science from California State University, Long Beach and her Master’s in Nutritional Science from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She is passionate about empowering people to make intuitive eating a natural and enjoyable part of their life. She offers her assistance and counseling of different health topics to clients, including mindful eating at every size, sports nutrition, food allergies, medical nutrition therapy and general wellness.

Anita Schultz

Virtual Dietitian

Anita is a Registered Dietitian who received her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in Dietetics with a focus on health promotion. She has 16 years experience in providing education, counseling, and medical nutrition therapy to clients throughout their entire rehabilitation journey. Anita believes in taking an individualized and evidence-based approach to nutrition and overall health. She has a heartfelt interest in collaborating with her clients to make realistic and sustainable changes in their nutritional habits to support a healthy lifestyle.
